Today I attended the Memorial Weekend Celebration at Cubanisimo Vineyards near Salem. This is an annual event at the vineyard that is celebrated “Cuban Style” with salsa lessons and dancing, a live band, wine tasting and catered Cuban cuisine in a beautiful setting. This event is definitely a fun thing to do in Portland. I even learned some new salsa moves! The event occurs all weekend 11 A.M. – 4 P.M. as well as on Memorial Day. The band was Pure Vida, a Portland-based band and they were excellent.
Other fun things to do at the vineyard include monthly Salsa dancing lessons, an Eclipse Party weekend and Zydeco dancing June 16 with a live band.

5 Things to Do Near Portland Oregon

There are many things do do near Portland Oregon. If you take a drive from Portland to Astoria at the Beach you will first pass through the small town of Linnton. There is a wonderful restaurant in Linnton with great Chinese food called The Decoy. After you leave Linnton you will next approach Sauvie Island. This amazing place is like stepping back in time and is a fun thing to do near Portland. It is a wonderful place to bicycle. Make sure you stop at Sauvie Island Blueberry Farm or Kruger’s Farm Market. Farther down U.S. 30, as you pass the town of Rainier, you will see two viewpoints on the right of the valley and the Lewis and Clark Bridge. As you proceed to the coast you will see Trojan Park on the right with great fishing. Finally you will see a sign to Jones Beach on the right (there are no rest rooms). The road is bumpy leading to the beach. Also you will see a sign to Nicolai Mountain OHV Riding Area on the left. This would be a fun thing to do near Portland if you have a four-wheeler.

There are many fun things to do for families in Portland Oregon. For example, families with children will enjoy the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) and Tillicum Crossing nearby, a pedestrian and bicycle-only bridge. There are also several fun things to do for families at Washington Park, including the Oregon Zoo and Children’s Museum. Washington Park has miles of hiking trails families with children will enjoy. Families with kids can rent a bike at one of the many Biketown locations around town. Another kid-friendly fun thing to do for families is Peninsula Park Rose Garden, located just six blocks from Portland Piedmont Guesthouse in Northeast Portland. This block-long park includes the first rose garden in the City of Portland, a large water fountain where families with kids can relax, a gazebo where many weddings are held and tennis courts. There is also a large playground for families with kids to enjoy. Another unique fun thing for families with kids to do in Portland Oregon is to take the Portland Aerial Tram. The tram is located on the 9th floor of the Kohler Pavilion at Oregon Health Sciences University. Families with kids will enjoy the views of the Portland area as the tram takes them across I-5 and the river. Families with kids will enjoy Waterfront Park along the Willamette River downtown. The park has many summer festivals for families with kids to enjoy. Another free activity for families with kids to do in Portland is to take the stairs to the top of the volcano at Mt Tabor park. This is the longest continuous series of steps (400+) in Portland. The views at the top are amazing!
