An awesome beautiful historic house museum in Portland

I visited Pittock Mansion today. It was beautifully-decorated for the Christmas holidays and there was live music in the music room. There are amazing views of downtown Portland in the gardens outside. This home was originally built by pioneer Henry Pittock in 1909.

King Farmers Market

The King Farmers Market is Sundays from 10A.M. to 2 P.M. The market is ar NE 7th and Wygant Avenue in Northeast Portland a few blocks from Portland Piedmont Craftsman Bungalow. the market includes products from area farmers, several food vendors, live music, a picnic area and playground and activities for the kids.Portland is a very popular foodie town.

Sunday Parkways

On June 30 the City of Portland had their North Portland Sunday Parkways event. At various times during the summer the city closes streets to traffic at a different part of town and thousands of bicyclists bike the streets This is a wonderful family activity. On June 30 there were game for kids and food carts at the stunning Peninsula Park Rose Garden just six blocks from Portland Piedmont Craftsman Bungalow..

Ponderosa Lounge and Grill at Jubitz

The other night I stopped at Ponderosa Lounge and Grill at Jubitz Truck Stop. This country bar is located a few minutes north of my vacation rental. I heard it was recently remodeled and wanted to check it out. It is a beautiful place. They have free lessons Thursdays to Saturdays (call to confirm as they often have popular bands performing instead). I thought the food was pretty good also.

Cadillac Cafe

Last Saturday morning my friend Julie and I decided to go to Cadillac Cafe in the Lloyd District. This top breakfast spot is just a few miles from Portland Piedmont Guesthouse. We arrived at opening in order to beat the rush as there can often be a wait I would rate this as one of the top three breakfast restaurants in Portland. Be sure to check out the pink Cadillac in back. Julie ordered the Hazelnut French Toast which is their famous dish while I ordered Smoked Salmon Benedict, substituting roasted tomatoes for the potatoes since I am on the Ketogenic diet. Both dishes were fabulous!

A Fun Thing To Do In Portland Oregon

Today I attended the Memorial Weekend Celebration at Cubanisimo Vineyards near Salem. This is an annual event at the vineyard that is celebrated “Cuban Style” with salsa lessons and dancing, a live band, wine tasting and catered Cuban cuisine in a beautiful setting. This event is definitely a fun thing to do in Portland. I even learned some new salsa moves! The event occurs all weekend 11 A.M. – 4 P.M. as well as on Memorial Day. The band was Pure Vida, a Portland-based band and they were excellent.
Other fun things to do at the vineyard include monthly Salsa dancing lessons, an Eclipse Party weekend and Zydeco dancing June 16 with a live band.

5 Things to Do Near Portland Oregon

There are many things do do near Portland Oregon. If you take a drive from Portland to Astoria at the Beach you will first pass through the small town of Linnton. There is a wonderful restaurant in Linnton with great Chinese food called The Decoy. After you leave Linnton you will next approach Sauvie Island. This amazing place is like stepping back in time and is a fun thing to do near Portland. It is a wonderful place to bicycle. Make sure you stop at Sauvie Island Blueberry Farm or Kruger’s Farm Market. Farther down U.S. 30, as you pass the town of Rainier, you will see two viewpoints on the right of the valley and the Lewis and Clark Bridge. As you proceed to the coast you will see Trojan Park on the right with great fishing. Finally you will see a sign to Jones Beach on the right (there are no rest rooms). The road is bumpy leading to the beach. Also you will see a sign to Nicolai Mountain OHV Riding Area on the left. This would be a fun thing to do near Portland if you have a four-wheeler.
